Gwen Carr, Eric Garner’s Mother, Escalates Her Campaign to Pressure the NYPD to Fire All the Officers Responsible for Killing Her Son

Carr Today Held a Media Availability After Her Meeting with the Civilian Complaint Review Board (CCRB), and She Confronted Mayor de Blasio in Person Last Night.

New York, NY-  Gwen Carr, the mother of Eric Garner, is escalating her campaign to push the NYPD to serve charges and fire all the officers responsible for killing her son and related misconduct, not just Daniel Pantaleo and Sgt. Adonis.

This afternoon, she held a media availability following her meeting with the Civilian Complaint Review Board (CCRB) in their disciplinary case against Pantaleo, the NYPD officer who used a chokehold that killed Garner.

A full video archive of the media availability is here: https://www.facebook.com/changethenypd/videos/1830617043681829/

In 2017, the CCRB recommended departmental charges that could lead to the suspension or firing of Pantaleo.  Until last week, the NYPD blocked serving those charges, and the CCRB is now moving forward with a disciplinary case and prosecution against Pantaleo. CCRB requested today’s meeting with Carr.

The media availability this afternoon came on the heels of Carr confronting Mayor de Blasio in person last night on Staten Island over the lack of NYPD accountability for all officers involved in the death of her son, and the de Blasio administration's focus on disciplinary charges for only two officers – Pantaleo and Sgt. Kizzy Adonis.

Video of Carr’s confrontation with de Blasio last night is available by clicking here.

There were multiple officers responsible for the use of force that resulted in the death of Eric Garner, including those who refused to provide aid or intervene as he stated "I Can't Breathe" at least eleven times, those who lied in official reports to cover up use of force, those who tampered with witness statements, and engaged in related police misconduct.

Carr wants the NYPD to serve charges against all of these officers -  not just Pantaleo and Sgt. Adonis - and fire them.
