The #PoliceSTATAct is one of three bills that Albany legislators are expected to vote on this week from CPR's Safer NY Act legislative package. The other two bills are a repeal of New York's police secrecy law (50-a) and a bill that would codify and strengthen the office of special prosecutor to investigate police killings.

New York – Today, Gwen Carr, the mother of Eric Garner, condemned the Minneapolis police killing of George Floyd, who was heard on video saying “I can’t breathe” before dying – the same words Garner used when he was killed by NYPD officers in 2014.
New York – Today, families of New Yorkers killed by police came together with racial justice groups, police accountability groups, and prominent labor unions like 1199 SEIU-UHWE and 32BJ SEIU to call on the state's legislative leaders to pass police accountability and transparency measures as part of an emergency COVID-19 relief package likely to be considered in the legislature after Memorial Day.
