Communities United for Police Reform (CPR) Statement on the Deaths of NYPD Officers Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos
Communities United for Police Reform (CPR) released the following statement tonight on the deaths of NYPD officers Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos:
“Today, it was reported that two NYPD officers were killed by a man who earlier in the day seriously injured a young woman in Baltimore, and who killed himself after shooting the officers. We express our condolences to the families of Officers Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos, as well as to the woman reported to be his former girlfriend who was shot earlier today.
“As the details of today’s shootings continue to come to light, there are people who would seek to exploit this tragedy and use it to condemn the growing national movement to end police violence and discriminatory policing.
“Attempts to link today’s tragic events with a movement that holds justice, dignity and respect for all as its core values are cheap political punditry, and dangerous in their divisiveness.
“In this time of mourning for all lives lost to senseless violence, New Yorkers must find a path forward that creates a justice system and society that works for all of us,” said Joo-Hyun Kang, Director of Communities United for Police Reform (CPR).
